- I believe I live a healthy lifestyle. I am determined to prove it to myself once and for all by not letting the numbers on the scale dictate my happiness. I am a reformed morbidly obese individual. On my journey to a healthier me, I had gastric bypass surgery in May of 2004. I made a vow to myself as I sat in the hospital miserable that I would not be one of those stories of people that lose via surgery, learn nothing, and gain it all back.
